High-grass, ride-on mower with permanent all-wheel drive and more ground clearance
The AS 940 Sherpa 4WD XL enables comfortable and safe mowing on slopes thanks to its Briggs & Stratton 2-cylinder engine with 724 ccm, 27 hp, and oil and fuel pump. Its permanent all-wheel drive, XL tyres with field stud tread, low centre of gravity and low total weight of only 298 kg provide stability on slopes. Hydrostatic transmission allows the precise adaptation of speed to match the terrain, reaching 6.7 km/h and 6.5 km/h in reverse. Just one lever controls the drive, brake and parking functions for easy operation, while limited slip differential can be activated for excellent propulsion and traction in extreme situations. A brake pedal returns the drive lever to neutral and automatically engages the parking brake.
The AS 940 Sherpa 4WD XL’s surfing mower deck is equipped with AS cross-blade technology in which bearing-supported blades cut the grass, while a mulching blade positioned above them shreds the cuttings. The mulched grass is then deposited between the wheels for added safety on slopes and wet grass, while the mower deck’s surfing suspension yields upwards to obstacles, protecting the blades and turf from damage. With a 90 cm cutting width, the AS Sherpa 940 4WD XL achieves work rates reaching 5,500 m² per hour. Cutting heights can be adjusted to 5 levels from 80–135 cm and an optional mulch kit is available for even finer mulching results.
Maximum comfort for long work days
The AS 940 Sherpa 4WD XL performs even under harsh conditions thanks to its highly stable tubular frame. A length-adjustable seat and seat spring package mean operators up to 2 meters tall can operate the machine comfortably while a low centre of gravity, folding bar and branch deflectors are added safety features. Integrated lashing points enable secure transport.
Designed for continuous operation
Two separate ventilation circuits for the engine and hydrostatic transmission prevent overheating: the engine takes in air from above and discharges it to the side, while the hydrostatic transmission takes air from the rear and discharges it downward. This system ensures a long service life.

The AS 940 Sherpa 4WD XL replaces a lot of manpower with brush cutters. It mows flawlessly where all other mowers we used would stop: On all extreme tall grass areas and steep slopes that used to be maintained with manpower and brush cutters, which took a lot of time. It has proven to be a very reliable, easy-to-use machine that always delivers excellent results.
We have been working with AS machines for over 25 years. Most recently, the AS 940 Sherpa convinced us so much that we had already ordered the second machine. We also use the Sherpa for winter maintenance or as a 'small' tractor in places where our other machines cannot reach. Furthermore, the size of the machine is optimal so it can be transported without any problems - even in a van. At a landfill site, we used the AS 940 to transport plants because Sherpa was the only machine the client had no conserns about its weight.
Time is a precious commodity which is why I'm the proud owner of an AS 940 XL.
For our AS 940 Sherpa 4WD XL, narrow, steep and difficult to navigate areas with high grass, shrubs, bushes and wild growth are no problem. We mow with our Sherpa, where you can hardly walk. Not much remains from the 1.5 m high and up to 3 cm thick growth! Our customers rely on us for quality and reliability and we can rely on our AS Profi mower!
The AS 940 Sherpa 4WD XL is an easy-to-use machine. In our company we have replaced several other machines that could not maintain tough terrain. This machine has reduced the mowing time. We couldn't manage to clean the terrain with tractors, we did it with brushcutters. Then the Sherpa came and gave us great results, and we are very happy with the performance we are achieving.
We use two AS 940 Sherpa for the green space maintenance of the open-air photovoltaic systems. Twice a year, we currently mulch around 200 hectares in this business area. The primary goal is to keep the solar modules free of shade. We mow under the solar tables, which means there is only about 90 centimetres of space between the turf and the tables in some places. Of course, the compact design and the low centre of gravity are very beneficial. In addition, the Sherpas with their all-wheel drive are very suitable for off-road use. Even if there is brushwood or high grass to be mulched, that is no problem, the Sherpas will stop nothing. With the AS mowers, we can get through anywhere.
