The AS 990 Tahr RC was developed for controlled operation on steep slopes, predictable performance under continuous load and reduced operational risk. SOP completion confirms production readiness and positions the machine for reliable deployment in the upcoming high grass season.
Bidirectional mowing. Saving time.
The AS 990 Tahr RC operates without a fixed driving direction. Its double-sided open rotary mower enables bidirectional mowing without turning, delivering a consistent, clean cut both forwards and backwards with uniform distribution of cut material.
Turning manoeuvres after each pass are eliminated, increasing area performance and reducing working time on steep slopes. The result is a more stable mowing process with fewer critical manoeuvres and improved operational safety.

Maximum traction on steep slopes
The tracked undercarriage with balanced weight distribution, wide track base and low centre of gravity delivers high traction in all driving situations, uphill, downhill and across slopes. With slope capability of up to 56°, the machine remains stable and precisely controllable even in extreme terrain.
Only the tracks are in contact with the ground. This reduces the risk of getting stuck and protects the turf. Very low ground pressure of just 0.13 kg/cm² underlines the soil-friendly design concept.
Intuitive control and high area output
The reduced remote control interface enables precise operation even in challenging environments. Straight mowing lines are easy to maintain, while controlled turning on the spot is possible when required. Automatic reversal of the control logic when changing driving direction reduces mental workload and prevents operator errors.
In real-world operation, the AS 990 Tahr RC achieves an area performance of up to 4,500 m² per hour.
Robust design and easy maintenance
The AS 990 Tahr RC follows AS-Motor’s design philosophy: maximum durability with minimal complexity. A solid square steel tube frame, proven Hydro-Gear hydrostatic drives and the established engine platform from the AS 940 Sherpa ensure long service life and low downtime.
The asymmetrical track design prevents the tracks from slipping off. Track tension can be checked and adjusted quickly. Easily accessible service points, a folding engine hood, few wear parts and a moderate fuel consumption of around 4.5 litres per hour support economical operation. With a weight of 482 kg, compact dimensions and integrated tie-down points, transport and handling remain straightforward.
Safety as a system priority
Remote-controlled operation significantly increases operator safety, especially on steep slopes and in difficult-to-access areas. The operator remains outside the danger zone, with reduced exposure to noise and dust.
A triple discharge protection system reduces the risk of flying debris. An automatic parking brake engages when stationary or during an emergency stop. Optional LED headlights improve visibility in poor light conditions.
